BEAUTY AND THE BEAST  

Casting 8-21 years old

Overview 

Cambridge Theatre Company returns to the ADC Theatre this December to present our festive take on Beauty and the Beast. Our production will feature up to six Cambridge adult actors and large youth theatre company.

This project aims to develop the talent of young actors in a unique way to create a theatrical world that is not known to many people. By being involved with a different style of the story that is unknown gives the perfect opportunity to test yourself as an actor. With no reference materials apart from a script, there is something natural about staging a title that is known but at the same time allows you time to develop your character and be original in an exciting but fresh way.

Show synopsis

You may think you know the story, but director Sarah Ingram has a few surprises in store in this brand-new version adapted from the original fairy tale by Anna Ledwich, with music and lyrics by Richard Taylor.

A foolish prince cursed to a life alone in a castle; a kind and beautiful girl who asks her father for nothing but a rose. One must learn to love and be loved in return, the other needs to realise there’s more than meets the eye. It’s a tale of magic, compassion and love, full of enchanting characters, marvellous musical numbers and some deliciously scary moments, guaranteed to delight the whole family. 

Auditions 

Saturday 9 September 

Please ensure you have read the information pack which includes audition venue information. 

Saturday 16 September - recall audition (invitation only)  

You can book your audition on the cambridgeyouththeatre.org.uk platform on the event section. You can only access this, if you have current membership. Please ensure you have booked into the correct audition workshop for your age which is juniors (aged 8-12) and teens (aged 13 - 21 for this production). Unfortunately, we cannot change the breakdown of these workshops.

Rehearsal Period 

The first rehearsal is scheduled on Thursday 28th September.

Rehearsals will be on Thursdays, 7pm-9:30pm and Sundays, 11am-5pm at Trumpington Meadows Primary School, Cambridge.

Rehearsals are from Thursday 28th September - Thursday 7th December. There is no rehearsal on Sunday 22 and Thursday 26th October but there is a rehearsal scheduled on Sunday 29th October.

The production and performance period at the ADC Theatre is from Sunday 10th- Sunday 17th December with performances from Wednesday 13th - Sunday 17th December (various show times).

Participation Fee

This project is entirely free. 

Please note our productions and projects demands huge commitment and full attendance, but the rewards are worth it.

The only cost to you is that you have current single youth theatre membership which is £25 for the year or £45 for family membership. Please check you have this in place to avoid signing up twice.
